Introducing Lola and Lucy, a pair of small cat siblings who share a unique bond. While Lola is sightless, her sister Lucy has just one eye, and they depend on each other for support in their daily lives.
In early January, two sisters were taken in by a small rescue group called Happy Jack Rescue in Boise, ID. They observed the strong bond between the sisters and the urgent medical attention they required. However, as a small rescue organization, they were unable to provide all the necessary medical care for the girls. Therefore, they reached out to several rescue groups across the country in the hope of finding help for the inseparable duo.
Only one rescue group, Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue (SPCR) in Kenosha, WI, responded to their plea for assistance. Kirsten Kranz, the founder/director of SPCR, agreed to help, but the main challenge was to figure out how to transport the sisters from Idaho to Wisconsin, a distance of over 1,600 miles.
Luckily, SPCR had a volunteer flight attendant who dedicated her days off to flying cats in need to their rescue facility. Sue Lentz from SPCR shared with Love Meow, “Happy Jack Rescue took the two girls to a local vet to ensure they were fit to fly, especially Lola with her compromised eye. Eventually, the sisters were flown to O’Hare Airport and then transported to their foster home in Wisconsin.”
The incredible efforts of both Happy Jack Rescue and SPCR made it possible for these two sisters to receive the care and love they desperately needed.
Join us on an adventure as we embark on a freedom ride with Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue! Meet Lucy, the bigger sister who is blind, and Lola, the smaller but feisty one-eyed leader. These two sisters, at just two years old and two pounds each, needed some serious TLC to get them back to a healthy weight. Lentz from the rescue organization shared, “Our first priority was getting them some much-needed nourishment. They were both so skinny and malnourished.”
Rescue for Unique Purebred Cats
These sibling cats have difficulties chewing due to their pronounced underbites. Lentz accommodates by providing them with diluted soft food. “They have developed a technique of sorts, using their tongues to shovel the food into their mouths.”
Within a short span of two months, their weight has increased significantly. “Lucy now tips the scales at 4.9 lbs, while Lola weighs in at 4.6 lbs.”
The Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue shared a heartwarming story of Lola and Lucy, showcasing their strong bond despite Lola’s limited vision. According to Lentz from the rescue, Lucy relies on Lola to guide her, sticking close to her side in new environments. Even during Lola’s eye appointments, Lucy waits anxiously for her return, refusing to eat or use her bed until Lola is back home, showing the deep trust and connection between them.
Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue Update: Despite the round-the-clock care, constant eye drops, and ointments given to Lola, unfortunately, her eye couldn’t be saved and will have to be removed today. Cats are remarkable animals and have the ability to bounce back quickly. Lola and Lucy are in good hands with their loving foster parents who will ensure they feel safe and loved during this challenging time. With both cats now blind, it will be interesting to see how their relationship evolves. These two sisters have been through a lot of hardship and pain, but their bond remains unbreakable as they continue to support each other no matter what.
